Arnala Fort
Arnala
Fort, also known as Janjira or the Island fort, is situated
at the north-west corner close to the water's edge of a small
island of the same name and is approx.14.49 kms north of Vasai
and is located in the village of Agashi in Vasai taluka. It
was constructed by the Gujarat Sultan Mahumad Begada about
the year 1516 and commands the southern and main entrance
to the Vaitarna river which is the most extensive inlet in
north Konkan. Today the fort is in a fair state of preservation
and comparable water-supply.
